Programming Projects

• Pipeline for Offline Conversion and Integration of Geocodes and Neighborhood Data (POINT)
• Developed web-based, containerized, application for geocoding^? addresses into geographical coordinates and census divisions that can be deployed offline and made available to multiple users across an organization.
Geocoding: the process of converting a plaintext address to a precise geographic identifier (such as Cartesian coordinates, Census tract/blockgroup in this case)
• Built web graphical user interface and REST-ful application programming interface to query geographic variables, by census tract, without exposing sensitive patient data.
• Rolled out at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a part of the Clinical Informatics Center.
• Published open source on GitHub with associated publication in Applied Clinical Informatics that includes more detailed write-up and performance validation.
• Technologies used: Python, GIS, SQL, FastAPI, HTML
• Interactive Programming Notebook to Teach Medical Students Data Science for Clinical Research
• Developed Jupyter notebook hosted on Google Colaboratory developed for medical students working on clinical research with minimal programming background.
• Centered learning objectives and content around PICO^? format of conceptualizing clinical research questions.

• Wrote single-page informational website made to provide an overview of wearable assistive technologies with case studies and the impact of such devices on patient and caregiver metrics.

Current Projects

• Patient and Community Characteristics Associated with Rates of Accessing Sensitive Results Before Provider Follow-up after Open Notes Rollout (Advisor: Dr. Bryan Steitz)
• Analyzed two years of VUMC patient portal usage data (>250,000 total patients) to characterize demographics of patients who view their test results on patient portals and elucidate social determinants of result viewership.
• Explored associations between result viewership and healthcare utilization (portal messages, hospital admissions, and urgent care visits).
• Outcome: one poster presentation, one manuscript in preparation

Past Projects

• Classifying Tumors by Collagen Expression Reveals Microenvironment Genome Interactions (Advisor: Dr. Alexander Brodsky)
• Performed k-means clustering of TCGA tumors by minor collagen expression and analyzed clusters for overall survival, immunoenvironment, oncogenemutations, copy number change, cancer hallmarks, and aneuploidy.
• Developed SVM machine learning models to predict tumor genome alterations fromcollagen expression patterns.
• Outcome: one published abstract, two published papers, and one patent application filed
